Worker Bee

Today Koa was Mommy's Little Helper.

I have been on a fortnightly super-scrub-clean schedule, but as I am getting bigger it is taking me longer and longer to finish all of my chores. Oh yeah, and the fact that this baby in my belly is already fully engaged (so riding low and hurting the pelvis) and about 7 pounds even though I still have over 6 weeks to go may be slowing me down just a little. In regards to my pain, my doctor actually told me on Monday that I could change my lifestyle to help, that I could not walk (um, no car), not go up stairs (um, have to walk up 38 of them to get to my door), and not squat (um, have a 3 year old) . . .

Sorry, got off track, back to my cleaning story . . . so in order to make a little less work for Friday I decided to break it up and try and do one room a day. Today was lounge room day, which includes the living room, dining room, and office. Koa helped me by picking up my toys, learning to dust, and vacuum (he even used the tube thing to get the crumbs in the corner since I am not bending down as easily as before).

Then when the groceries were being delivered he was a big help again. Usually the delivery man will buzz me at the gate and bring the groceries on a dolly to my building and pull them up the stairs. Today we had a moron of a delivery man that made me go down stairs so that he could pull in his truck and then looked at me all shocked like at the base of the stairs, "What no lift?" Um, no sir, that is why I have you to deliver them and hike them up the stairs. Oh yea, and I cannot walk up the stairs too many times during the day (refer to above big belly and hurting pelvis) and since I have to use my key for your truck to get out my 3-year old is going to show you where the door is . . . And sure enough, my wonderful little boy opened the third floor door for the man and showed him which apartment was ours.

Before you get all worried about child labor and such I have to tell you that he really likes helping and he gets rewarded (AND we also spent the morning with a friend at the library and eating gelato- it's not ALL work over here). Since he turned two I have been enlisting him to help me with chores, i.e. laundry, taking out the trash, helping with dishes, making dinner, and vacuuming - hey, better to take advantage while he still likes to do it :) And when he does a good job he gets a coin (a big fifty cent coin) that he puts in his money box. He was so helpful today I gave him two coins, yep a full dollar!!

Then, the best part was the surprise in the grocery delivery . . . his own cleaning gloves. Only a child like me would be this excited about rubber gloves!!

And again before you worry that I am turning him into an OCD cleaning machine who gets excited about new cleaning equipment, I must remind you that he is also a 3 year old boy, so naturally the gloves had a fight.

And the one that won then came after the camera.

Can't wait for Kitchen Cleaning Day tomorrow :) :)

I'm super impressed with your cleaning! I'm sans child (2 actually) and can barely get it together to hang up my clean clothes. Glad to see your nesting phase has some bright spots there... what an um... let's call it 'interesting' child.
