The Universe

There have been several moments in my life where I have been amazed at how the universe works. Today a series of events unfolded in such a way that I was again astonished.

1. Don rode with me this morning to drop Makoa off at school (not a normal occurrence) and to make room he took some papers off the passenger seat and put them onto the back porch.

2. Tasiana slept for only one hour today instead of two (ugh!) so I decided to take run a few errands while Makoa was at school.

3. On the way to town to return a movie and stop by the Post Office, I realized that when Don moved the papers he also moved the pick up slip for the registered letter waiting for me.

4. Testing my luck I went to the post anyway and the lady behind the counter "looked everywhere" but couldn't find anything with the last name Brown (although she came back with a mouth full of food so I wasn't entirely convinced that she looked very hard). I turned away super annoyed and I saw something on the floor. It was a $500 gift card to an electronic store.

5. I had seen an elderly man standing right there while I was waiting so I dashed out the door and stopped him and the woman he was with if it belonged to either of them. It didn't but the woman suggested maybe it was the lady who was behind me in line that dropped it. I checked in the grocery store and didn't see her, but as I was loading the baby in the car I saw her driving in the lot. I stood in front of the car to stop her and asked. She gently touched my face (she was an old Italian woman!) and said it wasn't hers either.

6. On the way to errand number 2 I swung by home and retrieved my pick up slip from the back porch and cursed the woman behind the counter. I couldn't decide if I should go back to the post or just run the other errand, but since I was so irritated I thought I should go do the other first so at least I could accomplish something today.

7. Feeling good after errand #2 I went back to the post office. The line was so long that I actually said Shit! out loud and looked at the clock mentally giving myself 30 minutes before I would run out and pick up Makoa. While standing there I overheard a woman behind the counter say "was it activated" (yes I was eaves dropping!)

8. The customer in a white puffy vest was obviously upset and turned away and kinda looked around then was about to walk past me when I stopped her and asked, "did you lose something here today?" "Yes," she said, "did you see it?" "It is in my car! Hold my place in line and I'll be right back!"

9. I ran up to where I parked, laughing at myself that I was so concerned with my spot in line that I asked this woman who had lost $500 today to hold it for me! Then I just thought how incredibly lucky the whole thing was.

10. When I got back she couldn't believe it and was visibly shaking. We were then both trying to prove ourselves, she trying to prove the card was hers and me trying to explain why I had it. She was so thankful that what was lost was found and I was thankful that I was no longer searching for who lost it (my next idea was to go to the shop where it was from and see if they could look up who bought it). Seriously, it was $500!

What are the chances that we were both back at the exact same time and that all those things happened today to put me there twice today?!
