Two Years in Oz
Easter weekend is a big deal in Australia - it may even be bigger than Christmas. Most people get 4 days off work, spending it with friends and family. Several businesses are closed (or if open they get away with adding a 10% surcharge), and there are festivals in the city. This time of year also marks our anniversary of living in Australia. We arrived in Australia on the 2nd of April which was the weekend before Easter. Ah, how things have changed as we celebrate our third Easter! Our first impression was, "What the heck is going on? This country is always on holiday. How are we supposed to find an apartment or get food to eat?" On Easter number 2 Don flew to San Francisco and then to Iowa for work/family visit. This year I was pleased to have several functions to attend, to have a son who was old enough to enjoy the holiday, and to know a little bit more about what to expect and plan for over the long weekend.
