Yard Sales - Take Two

I decided to give the yard saleing thing another go, especially since the sales were within walking distance and I could go on my way to the farmer’s market. Then if they sucked I could still make something of my day – just the start of my mental preparation. A friend wanted to join me – which was great because then I would instantly have someone to bitch with if they didn’t go well. On my walk over to meet her I reminded myself of last weekend and decided if one item was too high, just to walk out, and not even to bother offering another price. I am all about choosing my battles and I wanted to have a good day, not be irritated the whole time. (Wow, that sounds so grown up!)

It started off a little weird – because some houses are so stuck together we had to walk around the block and go around back to the garages, and then we crossed the street and a woman was selling Gucci and Prada. My first purchase was some Hi-5 craft items for $1 each. The woman was so excited because I was her first customer, and I was thrilled seeing normal priced items – good energy all around! Next door I bought a brand new kick board for $2 – Don has been wanting me to get one for Makoa because he has been learning how to use them in swimming class. A great price and something we wanted, now this is what I am talking about. I decided right then that even if the rest of the sales are ridiculous at least I had two great purchases that made the day. And, I love the people in my neighbourhood - the don’t take themselves to seriously or think they are better than other like those stupid people in Rozelle!

Things weren’t quite US prices, for example books were $1-2 instead of 25 cents, but Australians are still learning and in the end Australia redeemed itself. Check out the fantastic items I found for a total of $16!

In a month, Secondhand Saturday hits the streets closest to me - I’ll keep you posted!
