Sunday was Father's Day in the US - happy father's day dads - but it isn't until September here. I tried telling Don this, but he said he was glad he is American so that he can celebrate twice :) So, our daddy outing was a bushwalk in the Ku-Ring-Gai Chase National Park. To see a map click here. It is about an hours drive, so Don sat in the back seat entertaining Makoa, while I tried to navigate poor googlemaps directions in the rain. Once we got a bit closer, the scenery changed, and we knew we were in for a treat.
Around the first bend there was this Aboriginal carving in the rock, I think it is of a kangaroo. How cool is that, it was just on the ground in the rocks - after I took the photos Makoa walked across it . . . so much for not destroying art that has remained here for hundreds of years . . .

The flat rock behind us is actually where the carving was. And it was a bit misty, hence the hoods.

After a bit of walking we put Makoa in the backpack (thanks mom) and apparently he was just a little tired! We stopped at the bottom of a hill near a cove, as soon as Don took the backpack off and we set it on the ground, Makoa was instantly awake signing 'eat, eat.' Lunch time! It was a great location where there were some houses - not sure if they were vacation rentals or what, but they were only accessible by a hike or ferry. Anyway, there were some boys, about 10 years old, who were playing on a rope swing and Makoa thought they were hilarious! It was a very fun lunch.
Then we had to hike back up the hill . . . I am so out of shape. Don wanted to take the backpack off so he could take off his jacket and as I was taking the weight he said, "Oh, shit!" From the sound of his voice I thought it was a predator or something, nope, just the first wallaby that we've seen up close in the wild. Pretty exciting!

Just a cute photo of Makoa and Daddy holding hands!
Makoa loves hiking and exploring. For some reason he just wanted to jump on this rock. It was a good photo of the landscape that I thought I'd share too.
It was a nice weekend trip exploring more of Australia.
