Mommy Needs a Sick Day

As Makoa and Don have been sick several times this winter I’ve been saying, “Moms don’t have time to be sick.” That was until two weeks ago Wednesday when I was knocked on my bum by the worst cold ever. It started with a fever and sore muscles, then the stuffy and runny nose and scratchy throat followed. Don was great and was able to work from home twice to help out. That’s the thing about a sick mommy- you can’t just rest and drink fluids because there is a toddler running around needing you to take care of him.

Makoa was actually a very good sport as we spent the most part of 10 days in the house. We generally go do at least something fun – playgroup, swimming, park, gymbaroo – but not last week. Makoa found some of his toys that he hadn’t played with in a while and busied himself playing by himself. Well, mostly . . .

Did you know that you could play for hours with a coffee table and 5 cars? During the first game Makoa climbed onto the table with one car, handed it to me, I put it into the line (he’d let me know if I didn’t put it in the right spot), then he would jump into my arms and we’d count the cars and do it again. How many times do you think we did this? If you guessed 734,000 then you’d be close. Then the game changed with slight variations, he started throwing the cars down, then wanted me to chase him around the table – but that was too much movement for sick mommy, so I just pushed the cars around while lying down.

Fun times in the Brown House!
